Nilah Magruder's "Making the Jump from Animation to Children's Books":

Caroline Foley's "Character Development For Your Hit Cartoon Show":

Character design and character personality are intertwined. When starting work on an original idea you hope to be the next hit cartoon show, there are many things to consider before jumping into a finished clean line drawing of your main character. Who is the audience? What is the character's backstory? What sort of world does this character live in? There is a lot to develop before settling on a fully fleshed out character design. In my two hour lecture I will go through some of the basic concepts for developing strong characters in both writing and design. All students should bring their favorite sketching pen/pencil and preferred sketchbook of choice for note taking.
